There were 4 generations named August Knatz descended from our immigrant Ancestor August Knatz. The second August Knatz was born in 1877 with only one arm. Letters written from Forst Germany where Anna Appolonia, August’s wife came from, mention that maybe it would be better if the child died. But the baby born with only one arm (or hand, it is hard to know the exact condition) grew up to be a handsome man, married and his descendants are living in the US today. Where it not for the old letters however, no one today would know about the condition of August’s birth. Surviving photographs show a man who always was usually turned sideways.
